Pause

Feb 20 2012
...Hey everybody. I've finally got a minute free to...oh wait, just a second...

...

..

...

.

...Okay, sorry about that. Had to go deal with a crying child. So anyway... what? Oh right... hold on a second...

.

...

..

...

.

..There. Had to take some more drugs for my cracked rib. Now I shouldn't be...

...

..

...

.

...Okay. Done now. Sorry about that.

I've been very busy lately, and it is very much getting to me. I've never before found myself so injured in such a short period of time as this. I was sick after christmas with a small cold, which then turned into conjunctivitis, which then played off of strep throat, which eventually went away. Then I cracked a rib. Seriously, what the heck? Add to that a new job (I am a SWAT Analyst for Bulletproof InfoTech in their Calgary office) and trying to look for a house for my family to live in, and I've found myself rather stretched lately. In my other "free time" I've been taking a class for work, and I'm studying for some certifications for work as well.

I've decided that this point in my life is very odd, because I very much love my job and I'm very happy to have it, yet I'm also busier than I've been in a long time as well. I cannot recall missing as many blog posts in a row before, with the same reason playing into each delay -> I've been too busy.

So on that note, I need to take a pause in a few areas of my life while I reboot and try to get on track once again. This site (and most of my writing, sadly) is one of those areas being stalled for now. I do apologize, and I will try to post when I can, but for now I owe more to my family than I can give even without the short time needed to update here, and I feel badly for that. Hopefully this delay will not last long.

Cheers,

Leif

Good Month

Jan 29 2012
This month I started a new Year, a new Job, and began life in a "new" City. I claim that Calgary is "new" for myself in the sense that I have never lived here with children, and yes I believe that changes things.

In addition to starting a new job (which I love, by the way), I decided to get conjunctivitis and strep throat in the same sitting... which was the cause of my disappearance from this site last week. My apologies, but being unable or semi-able to even see has a few drawbacks.

From this point, however, I am feeling wonderful and happy. We have begun our search for a home to buy somewhere near my work, and I am beginning to remember all of the wonders of life in a proper city once more. Life is pretty good.

In writing news (remember when this blog had much more writing-related content), I'm still trying to finish my list of top shows (in my own mind), which I should have posted later this week. I am also still working on getting all of the old site-content back, as well as more items for the "Rants & Raves" section.

Have the rest of you felt as busy as I have this month? I don't recall a January in recent years that has gone by as quickly as this one. It is quite interesting...

The Year Which Has Passed.

Jan 14 2012
How many major films were released last year? Do you know? Can you recall the top three which you made the effort to go and watch in the theatre? I was running over the trailers which I could recall in my head, and I was struck by the hard reality that I no longer watch movies.

Oh, I know it isn't the worst thing in the world. It isn't even that terrible a thing. I shouldn't feel odd about it, and yet it strikes me because of how dearly I once felt, so very long ago... in 2010.

Perhaps a bit of a refresher. For those of you who are not aware, I once gave myself the label of a man who quite loved movies. There were few films which I didn't know about, and I made a point to watch every one which caught my eye (along with many that did not). I was able to write year-end reviews of my top films of that year, and once I have transferred all of my content to this new site there will be several entries in my "Rants & Raves" section which deal entirely with films, actors, and so forth.

So what has changed? Have the two young boys who now occupy much of my time managed to strip that passion for films from me? No, that cannot be the case - I still have time when they are asleep to watch what I want, if I truly wanted. In fact, several times I have been presented with the opportunity to watch a movie over the past year, and most of the time I choose not to. On a popular movie website I looked over the "top films of 2011," and of their showcase of about 30 or 40 I have only seen 4. Three of those films were not for me, but for my kids or wife. The only one I saw because I wanted to was Harry Potter, and that was arguably because I had a need to finish the series off my list.

By contrast, however, I could tell you a great many things about my favourite television shows of the past year. I watched a few returning series for the first time, and I happily began new love-affairs with some brand-new shows as well. My wife has commented that it is quite easy to get me to watch a television show now, but bring up the idea of a movie and I will likely leave the room. The length has nothing to do with it, as the episodes of Sherlock clock in at 90 minutes each. I could easily watch several episodes of a series in a row, and yet the thought of sitting through an entire movie... it is strange.

Have films "lost" something for me? Perhaps. Perhaps I am beginning to desire returning characters, better and stronger character development (I've never gone to the movies for the action), and deep, intricate plots. It is something I must think about. For now, perhaps I should write a brief list of television shows which I enjoy and recommend to you all.

...Yes, that sounds like a wonderful idea.

A Fresh New Look

Nov 30 2011
Hello and welcome to the new look for LeifPederson.com! I'm very happy to finally show it to you all, and I must thank my good friend Sabastian Van Esch for drawing the banner for my new site (the fading to black is something I did to allow for various computer monitor sizes... he didn't get lazy or anything). You can find Sabastian online at his own website: http://sabastian-vanesch.weebly.com/. I highly endorse checking out his stuff (and Sab if you read this, please continue your "how to draw" series...).

The site itself was built by the wonderful (and quirkier than myself, if you can believe it) Brent Watson, whose site is so mysterious you can only find it if you wish hard enough... and realize that it is his name.

You will (hopefully) notice that the entire backlog of blog posts is missing. That is because I am a very busy man, and I need a bit of time before I have all of the posts uploaded to the new site. Please bear with me as I do this; my posts go back a couple of years. There are a few new aspects of the website, but mostly it should be familiar to those of you who've frequented my nook of the net in the past. You will now have the ability to purchase whatever I am selling (writing, audio, etc.) directly from my site, although I will continue to have a minor presence on Smashwords.com, Amazon, and the other major book sites. I will also be adding new posts to the "Rants & Raves" section of the site, which will include such things as book, game and movie reviews, lists, and other wonderful nonsense that may interest you (or provide you with a distraction from work in the middle of the day... I don't judge).

I hope you all enjoy the new look. I will certainly enjoy the customized back-end of the site. Much news and excitement to come in this new year. Have a look around, and please continue to check as I *very slowly* add actual content to all of the pages. Thank you very much for your patience!

...Oh yes, Happy New Year everyone.
